Pitbull‘s grainy voice and quick rhymes gets a soothing treatment thanks to a chorus from R&B crooner Ne-Yo in this top song of 2011. The high-pitched whirring beat picks up as Pitbull starts ripping through the first verse of the club banger: “Tomorrow I’m off to Dubai to preform for a princess / But tonight, I can make you my queen / And make love to you endless.” Nayer’s breathy hook and Pitbull’s whispery pre-chorus also enhance the song’s sexiness.
‘What the Hell’

Watch out boys! Avril Lavigne is single and out on the prowl! Well, at least she is in her latest hit, ‘What the Hell.’ The Canadian singer turns up her usual sass, singing about “messing with your head when messing with you in bed.” The infectious pop-punk beat includes a high-pitched, vintage-sounding keyboard intro — making this track a must-have on our top songs of 2011 list.
‘The Lazy Song’

Bruno Mars is taking it easy in this breezy, whistle laden tune. While he monkeys around and dances in the music video, 25-year-old Mars really just sings about activities like “chilling in [his] Snuggie” and how he’s gonna “kick [his] feet up then stare at the fan” in ‘The Lazy Song.’ Seriously, who hasn’t felt like that on certain days? The laid-back lyrics, light-hearted guitar plucking, and Mars’ swoon inducing vocals harmoniously blend together as one of the stand out tracks of 2011 thus far.
‘On the Floor’
Jennifer Lopez Feat. Pitbull
J. Lo teams up with fellow Miami artist Pitbull for an updated dance club number — laced with an accordion sound sampled from French pop group Lambada’s ‘Kaoma.’ It’s just enough punch to remind us of the recent Romanian hit ‘Stereo Love’ and give the song a global smash appeal, perfect for its jet-setting lyrics: “Brazil, Morocco, London to Ibiza, straight to LA, New York, Vegas to Africa.”

This foot-stomping anthem from one of Britain’s biggest voices finds scorned lovers singing along and heartbreakers running to hide. Adele is known for writing about breakups, but this track truly stands out thanks to a stirring vocal performance and a vengeful, rising blend of rock, pop and soul. Adele sings to an ex-lover who comes crawling back: “Think of me in the depths of your despair / Make a home down there as mine sure won’t be shared.”
‘Till the World Ends’

‘Till the World Ends’ was penned by Kesha, so even if you haven’t heard it, you pretty much know what’s in store. This Eurodance inspired track blows awayBritney‘s previous single, ‘Hold It Against Me.’ The song has a massive synth build-up to the insanely epic refrain — which features Brit backed by a chorus of singers chanting “oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh.” ‘Till the World Ends’ doesn’t make you want to dance, it makes you need to dance.
‘Blow’
Kesha
Kesha‘s second single from ‘Cannibal’ opens with maniacal laughter, as she commands us to “dance.” This party song, about letting “the crazy out,” has an electro beat that incorporates a siren-esque, pulsing beat and hard-hitting drums. Kesha kicks it into high gear on the chorus, as the she makes you want to jump out of your seat singing “this place about to blow,” with the word “blow” skipping into a series of stuttering “oh, oh, oh, oh, oh’s.”
‘S&M’
Rihanna
Despite the racy lyrics and its ban from many radio stations, this dance-pop song has been a huge hit for Rihanna. The Barbadian songstress shows her naughty side — singing about her love of experiencing “pain for pleasure” over pulsing synth beats, keyboards and beating drums. It’s pretty much impossible not to dance to the song, as Rihanna’s vocals take on an edgy, sexy sound.
‘E.T.’
Katy Perry Feat. Kanye West
Katy Perry teams up with Kanye West on this sexy, out-of-this-world single, which is the fourth off her album, ‘Teenage Dream.’ The intro of the song sounds like a heartbeat, and the music reaches full capacity with Kanye’s first verse. With pounding drums, clapping, and a repetitive synth beat, Perry sings about a passionate love that transcends the realms of normalcy.
‘Born This Way’

Oh Gaga. There is no stopping you. This single — which is the first off of her upcoming album — not only has a great beat, but also a great message: “I’m beautiful in my way / ‘Cause God makes no mistakes / I’m on the right track baby / I was born this way.” With an electrifying melody that sounds like a revamped, contemporary version of Madonna‘s ‘Express Yourself,’ Gaga tears it up in this anthem, especially when she hits the foot-stomping chorus: “Ooh there ain’t no other way, baby I was born this way.”
